Showing My Work Outside of Math Class

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

One thing that has always stuck with me is how my father admires that I, "know what I like regardless of what others like". I've always been a passionate person with a handful of interests that I hold close. Although I could talk my friend's ears off about what media I love to consume, I thought I'd start keeping a blog to put all of my thoughts out into the world in one place.

I'm no author or remotely a practiced writer, so don't expect any groundbreaking narratives being published here. This is more of a journal than anything else!

A new habit I've formed is taking a few minutes out of my morning each day to read. Part of my morning routine is stopping by Starbucks after my short bus ride to work. Instead of heading to work right afterwards like I usually did, I take 10 to 15 minutes to sit. Currently I'm enjoying Austin Kleon's third book, "Show Your Work!". His other books, "Steal Like an Artist" and "Keep Going", were my favorite books to read and keep with me through my many college apartments. The books are shorter in height than usual which make them incredibly easy to carry in my backpack. One of my arbitrary New Years resolutions was to read more, and taking baby steps is much easier than becoming a bookworm over night.

Kleon's most recent book puts a lot of emphasis on, no surprise, showing your work. Keeping trade secrets or your own creations to yourself won't benefit anyone but yourself (if at all). Art has a space in this world because it can be viewed by others and inspire them if lucky.

That leads me to the creation of this blog! I want to share what inspires me- artists, media, books, daily events, etc. Come along for the ride if you'd like to take a peek into what's rattling around in my skull.

The DND Bug

I can deny it no longer- I have officially been bitten by the "Dungeons and Dragons" bug. I blame my recent fixation to the channel...
